Some PIPELINE RUNS of large bore pipe have access ports at their upper most runs and if the pipe is being used and is full of water, there's usually no need to empty, after all... That's how we get around so quick inside them. If the flow rates can be stopped or slowed significantly we can operate the R.O.V inside and bring back photographic images of the bore for the full run up to 225' in length either way from the point of entry. This service usually requires several hours to be thorough and the individual case will dictate the time required. DVD and/or CD media is almost always used and occasionally still photos are stripped from the onboard video stream as necessary and saved separately.
These tanks are very large, sit in semi-isolated areas and require top port access to get the R.O.V inside. With respect to drinking water stores, we disinfect the R.O.V, the umbilical, and anything that may come in contact with the supply using a diluted chlorine & water solution to insure we don't introduce outside bacteria to the supply just before entering the tank with it. Divers just can't do that simply because they have to exhale into the water column and unless they use a dry suit, anything that is inside or on the wet suit, the snaps, buckles, straps, etc. is available to haul just about any kind of bacteria or germ into the supply.
These drinking water storage tanks are usually on top of huge support structures, three or four legs of structural steel and rise hundreds of feet into the air. Don't worry... all the same rules from above apply to these as well and our operators will usually sit right up on top or near the access port to make the quick imaging observations. We have safety lanyards, OSHA approved and we do "TIE-OFF" every time. We prefer to make these video observations with assistance from a boom truck or crane if available and during daylight hours simply because of the dangerous location and the weight of our equipment, although less than 100 lbs total, it's difficult to climb a ladder with a suitcase in your hand. July 20, 2009 NEWS FLASH... Deep Visions LLC ROV Surveys is scheduled to bring the Sidescan Sonar unit to Bucks Lake and profile the bottom as necessary for the Bucks Lake Historical Artifact Recovery Project. Beginning the first week of August, the crew will deploy the sonar and using the GPS and digital maps, profile the entirety of the main lake bottom. Unusual and or significant target rich areas will get additional scans. After the mapping and profile work is done, we'll post some sample scans on the web site. This relationship between their dive team and artifact recovery specialists will provide safety, speed, and accuracy in their efforts to secure the artifacts they've been mapping and searching for over the past 6 years. With the use of the Explorer available every hour they require it whether it be daylight or dark, the Deep Visions LLC ROV Surveys will provide operator, maintenance, and support no matter the day or condition. TYPICAL SONAR SCANS ..
A very unusual shape with the coordinates displayed in the lower right side corner of the display. Something to later go back and ROV search. additional info... Deep Visions LLC ROV Surveys has been onsite several times with the core team of the Bucks Lake Historical Artifact Recovery Project and surveyed the area to start exploring next month. GPS coordinates and a sketch plan have been approved to begin the search. The plan calls out a linear grid pattern which works along a single longitude until the area has been completely overlap searched and then moving half the distance NE to begin over again. The working depth is approx. 80-100 feet of 40 degree fresh water. It is planned to cover approximately 5.6 acres per day of search area and this does not compensate for time spent on diver investigations of potential targets. Time has been scheduled for the first week of August, (2nd thru the 9th).
